The Kentland Communities Difference: A History of Quality

Waverly ShoresW.A. Lettinga founded Kentland Communities in 1971 with the development of the first community, Pinebrook Village in Grand Rapids. In less than 35 years, Kentland grew to 20 manufactured housing communities with approximately 6,000 home sites. Today, Kentland is thriving, based on the time-proven commitment to well-planned and well-managed communities.

Building communities

Kentland Communities prides itself on being a family-owned company. After graduating college, Bill Lettinga, Jr. joined his father in the business when he became the on-site community manager at Leisure Village. In the late 1980s, Michael Lettinga joined his father and brother as Kentland's accountant. Bill Lettinga Jr. now serves as President of Kentland Communities. Michael Lettinga serves as Chief Financial Officer.

The company has continued to grow and mature as more communities are developed, bought and sold. Several factors are taken into consideration when developing a Kentland community. A prospective location must have at least 300 sites, with additional acreage for future expansion. Although 300 is the minimum number of sites required, Kentland doesn’t necessarily develop 300 new home sites. A Kentland community has no more than three or four homes per acre. That number is fewer if the sites allow for garages. Leisure VillageHomes in a Kentland community are placed parallel to the street so that each community looks like a conventional subdivision. Care and consideration goes into development— each community is first class.
